Germanium (Ge) is a high index material that is used to manufacture Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) prisms for spectroscopy. Due to its broad transmission range and opacity in the visible portion of the spectrum, Germanium is also well suited for Infrared laser applications. Typical applications for Germanium include thermal imaging, wide-angle lenses and microscopes.
